Here is a break-down of the process for digitizing newspapers with the Texas Digital Newspaper Program. Please contact us regarding your project, we can help you in each step of the process:

  1. Create a budget for the project with our assistance.
  2. Determine how you plan on funding your project.
  3. Discover location of master microfilm reels, and determine cost to order silver negative duplicate reels. This can vary significantly depending on who holds the originals.
  4. Work with TSLAC if the newspaper is in paper format, and requires microfilming.
  5. Assess the quality of the master reel to determine if it is a suitable candidate for digitization.
  6. Order silver negative duplicates for digitization.

Once UNT receives the silver negative duplicate microfilm we will complete the process for digitization. The newspaper can be loaded onto the Portal to Texas History for free online access and searching.
